Diamonds are OK but the cell phone is certainly my best buddy. It is funny, though I carry a phone, talking on it is not what I use it most for. The Internet or rather the phone’s connectivity to web based tools is my biggest use. In fact there are many ways you can use it to get organized and be productive. For example, you could…
Capture notes – my all time favorite for capturing notes on the go is Evernote. It is a fantastic tool! You can take pictures and upload it directly to your account, write notes, record voice messages and they keep it all in sync for you between the Internet account, your desktop, laptop and mobile device. Sweet!
Create tasks via email – if you use a service like RememberTheMilk, you’re given a special email address where you can email yourself to-dos and even your family and assistants if you share tasks with them. No email but have text? Do you know you can send a text messages can be emails? Just enter the email address instead of phone number.
Be reminded of the little things – services like oh, don’t forget lets you send yourself a text message to remind yourself about something like picking up the dry cleaning before 6pm.
Write an article or a blog post – talk about being productive. Sometimes an article hits you while you’re waiting for the doctor or you’re just waiting for the kids to finish Karate. Type up it up in an email then send it to GoogleDocs for safe keeping until you are ready to polish it up. You can also send it to Evernote.
Record a mini podcast – mix your blog up once in a while by adding audio. Sometimes you just want to share a short message with your readers when you see something while you’re out and about. Leave yourself a voicemail. Services like Jott and GoogleVoice will have the voicemail ready as an MP3 and even transcribed for you. GoogleVoice also gives you an embeddable code to paste into your blog. To save more time, you could also use a service like Hipcast.com which can post directly to your blog after you hang up.
Track mileage – with MyMileMarker.com, you can send it a Twitter message to record your mileage.
Create and share documents by taking a picture – did you know you can take a picture of a document, business card and even hand written notes on your phone then have it created into documents, PDFs and faxes? Yup, Qipit.com and scanR.com can help you do that.
Pretty cool huh? It almost makes organizing fun. What else do you use your phone for?
